This reminds me of the time my very religious mother, in her 90s, got stuck in her narrow bathroom. She somehow couldn’t get out because her walker was jammed in and wouldn’t move. She started to holler and bang on the wall with her cane. I was sound asleep in the apt. next door but didn’t hear anything.

She didn’t have her necklace alarm on that summoned me when she needed help. She hadn’t locked her front apartment door and her upstairs neighbor came down, was able to get in and helped her. When she asked where he was from he pointed upwards and she said “from Heaven?” He explained that no, he was from upstairs. I didn’t know this until years later when he was moving and told me the story. I knew that he had helped her one night but not the Heaven part. We both got a good smile from that story.
